Rep donates mobile science labs to Enugu secondary schools

The member representing Enugu North/South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chimaobi Atu, has taken a significant step towards improving science education in his constituency by renovating and installing three mobile smart science laboratories in three secondary schools.
The beneficiary schools are the Comprehensive Secondary School, Akwuke; Community Secondary School, Ugwuaji; and Day Secondary School, Independence Layout, Enugu.
The lawmaker’s initiative aims to bridge the gap in science education by providing students with hands-on experience in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
According to Atu, during the unveiling of the laboratories in the various schools on Tuesday and Wednesday, the decision to introduce mobile smart laboratories was informed by a disheartening discovery during his visits to several public secondary schools in his constituency.
We discovered that most of the science laboratories were either in terrible condition or non-existent,” he said.
He explained that the mobile smart laboratories are fully equipped to carry out over 220 major science experiments, aligned with the current SSCE curriculum. He also emphasised that this is just the pilot phase, with plans to extend the innovation to all 24 remaining public schools in his constituency.
“We want to make impacts that generations will remember. Our children deserve the best because they are among the most intelligent creations of God. Tomorrow belongs to the next generation of society, who deserve all the knowledge to fortify them for the global competition ahead”, Atu said during the unveiling of the laboratories.
The principals of the beneficiary schools expressed gratitude for Atu’s initiative, noting that it will improve the teaching and learning of science subjects.
The Principal of Comprehensive Secondary School, Akwuke, Mrs. Stella Ogbonnia, said, “I have not seen this before, and it’s commendable. This will attract more students to go into science subjects.”
The science teachers in the schools were also thrilled with the development. “This is a game-changer for our students. The mobile smart laboratory will enable our students to conduct experiments and learn science in a more engaging and interactive way. We are excited to see the impact it will have on our students’ performance”, said Mrs. Nneoma Okoro, a science teacher at Community Secondary School, Ugwuaji.
The students were equally enthusiastic about the new laboratories. “I’m so excited to use the mobile smart laboratory. I love science, and now I can conduct experiments and learn in a more fun and interactive way. Thank you, Rep Atu, for this wonderful gift”, said Emeka Onyeji, a student at Day Secondary School, Enugu.
“I’ve always struggled with understanding some concepts in science, but with the mobile smart laboratory, I can now visualise and experience it for myself. This is a great opportunity for us to excel in science and compete with our peers globally”, added Chiamaka Nwosu, a student at Comprehensive Secondary School, Akwuke.
The Senior Prefects of the schools also appreciated Rep Atu’s intervention, saying it will make a great impact on science students and improve their results. “We’re grateful to Rep Atu for thinking about us and providing us with the resources we need to succeed,” said Collins Okoro, Senior Prefect of Community Secondary School, Ugwuaji.
The Traditional Ruler of Akwuke Uwani Community, Igwe C.A. Ekwomchi, assured Atu that the community will protect the smart mobile laboratories and other donated items.
We appreciate Rep Atu’s efforts in improving education in our community. We will ensure that the laboratories are well-maintained and used for the benefit of our students”, Igwe Ekwomchi said.
