I was so depressed I started taking antidepressants – Busola Oke

Gospel singer Busola Oke has opened up about her battle with depression and severe financial hardship, revealing that she resorted to antidepressants at the lowest point of her struggles.

The Eleyele crooner made the revelation during an emotional interview with actress Biola Adebayo, days after a tearful TikTok live session that sparked concern among fans.

Speaking about her mental health, Oke said, “I was so depressed that I started taking antidepressants. When I took them, I would sleep for two days and disconnect from everyone. I began to feel like it was the end.”

The singer explained that hunger and frustration pushed her to go live on TikTok. According to her, she had been pretending to be fine while quietly battling hardship.

“I made that video because I was hungry. I have been putting up a charade. I have been pretending to be fine. I am not fine,” she said, adding that she felt alone and simply wanted reassurance from her fans

Oke also disclosed that she was unable to pay her N1 million rent last September because she was struggling to feed. Although she received N500,000 from a junior colleague to assist with the rent, she used the money for survival as it was insufficient to cover the full amount.

Despite releasing albums such as Adura, Songs of Praise and Ogo Titun, she said she lacked the financial capacity to promote them adequately.

Now, the gospel artiste says she is exhausted from merely surviving. “I need help. I want my life back,” she said, expressing her desire for stability and a place to call home.
