Foundation donates ward to Lagos hospital

Pistis Foundation on Monday unveiled a newly constructed ward at the Hospital for Trauma & Surgery, Lekki, Lagos.

The ward, donated and equipped by the foundation, was unveiled by its board chairman, Godman Akinlabi, during a ceremony held at the facility.

A Monday statement noted that the ward expansion also marked the commencement of the organisation’s 2025 Medical and Surgical Outreach — a five-day programme providing free medical consultations to individuals and families who cannot afford treatment.

Speaking at the ceremony, Akinlabi reaffirmed that the initiative reflected the foundation’s mission to bridge the gap between the availability of healthcare and the accessibility of healthcare.

This new ward is more than infrastructure — it is an answer to a pressing need in our communities and a practical demonstration of compassion in action,” he stated.

Also speaking at the event, Executive Director of Pistis Foundation, Leonard Thomas, highlighted the long-term impact of the initiative on community health outcomes

This year, our focus is not just on treatment, but also on continuity of care.

Beyond the outreach window, patients will receive follow-up support through our partner facility here at the hospital. We are building a health access pipeline that ensures long-term well-being, especially for families who have been shut out of the healthcare system for years.”

Local community’s access to health services has been a focal point for stakeholders in Lagos State.

In October, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making health services accessible to all residents, promising to provide health subsidies for the vulnerable population.

“There are plans to expand subsidies for vulnerable populations and enforce enrollment through community pharmacies and markets, targeting a 15 per cent coverage rate in the coming years,” he said through his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, at the maiden Eko Health Convention 2025, held at The Jewel Aeida, Lekki.
