Sokoto to recruit 2,440 community health workers

THE Sokoto State Government has approved the recruitment of 2,440 community health workers to be deployed to Primary Healthcare Centres across all 244 wards of the state.

The initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, aims to strengthen healthcare service delivery at the grassroots and address manpower gaps across PHCs.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Director General of Media and Publicity at the Government House, Abubakar Bawa, said the move aligned with the administration’s drive to reduce unemployment and create meaningful job opportunities for residents.

Bawa said the deployment of the health workers would significantly boost access to basic healthcare, noting that the state government was committed to improving frontline medical services in rural and semi-urban communities.

This significant initiative is part of the present administration’s commitment to reducing unemployment, empowering citizens with meaningful job opportunities, and addressing the manpower needs within the health sector,” the statement read.

He added that details on the recruitment process and application guidelines would be announced by the state recruitment committee in due course.

The approval marks one of the state’s largest targeted health workforce engagements in recent years, expected to contribute to improved maternal and child health outcomes, as well as enhanced disease surveillance and community-level interventions.
