Police debunk alleged kidnap, murder of female officer in Kwara

The Kwara State Police Command has dismissed as false a viral social media report claiming that a female police officer serving in the state was kidnapped and murdered.

Reports claimed that a female Police Inspector serving as a prosecutor at the said division was kidnapped and later found dead in the Oloje area of Ilorin.

In a statement on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, described the story as “entirely false and deeply distressing,” warning the public against spreading unverified information that could cause panic.

“The command wishes to state unequivocally that this report is not only false but also misleading, with the intent to cause panic in the state.

Members of the public are hereby advised to disregard this misleading information as there is no report of any female police officer missing or abducted in any division in the state,” the statement read in part.

SP Ejire-Adeyemi also clarified that there is no police division known as Ogidi in Kwara State, as mentioned in the viral posts, describing the claim as an attempt to mislead unsuspecting members of the public.

She further noted that the Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Adekunbi Ojo, remains committed to protecting lives and property, maintaining peace, and upholding transparency in its operations.

The Command is cooperating fully with other security agencies to ensure safety across the state. We urge the public and media outlets to refrain from sharing unverified or sensationalized information that may cause unnecessary panic or damage the reputation of the state,” she said.

The spokesperson urged residents to rely only on verified information from the Command’s official platforms on X (@kwara_ppro), Facebook (Kwara State Police Command), and its WhatsApp Channel.
