Police alert Kaduna residents ahead of two-day shooting drill

The Kaduna State Police Command has notified residents of Igabi Local Government Area and adjoining communities to steer clear of designated zones as recruit constables from the Police College, Kaduna, embark on a two-day shooting range exercise.
The exercise, according to the Command, will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Amanan Kasuwa Shooting Range Ground, located along the Mararaban Jos–Panbegua Road in Igabi LGA.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, in a statement issued on Monday, said the exercise was part of the final phase of the training programme for police recruits, aimed at sharpening their operational skills in weapons handling and preparedness for future security challenges.
Hassan explained that residents should not panic on account of gunshots that may be heard during the period, stressing that the exercise was strictly a controlled training under the supervision of experienced instructors.
He stated, “This is a routine training exercise for recruit constables currently undergoing training at the Police College, Kaduna. The exercise is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, and it will be held at the Amanan Kasuwa Shooting Range Ground along the Mararaban Jos–Panbegua Road in Igabi LGA,” Hassan said.
“We are appealing to residents, farmers, and commuters who usually ply the area to take note of this advisory and avoid the marked vicinity throughout the exercise. The public should not be alarmed at the sound of gunfire during this period, as adequate safety measures have been put in place.”
The police spokesman, who assured the public that the Command would ensure maximum safety during the training, added that police personnel had been deployed to secure the shooting range and its surroundings to prevent accidents or trespassing.
We want to reassure everyone that the exercise will be conducted under strict safety guidelines. We are very mindful of the concerns of the public, especially those whose farmlands or businesses are close to the area. The Command has taken adequate steps to prevent any form of mishap. There is no cause for alarm,” he said.
He further noted that such exercises were essential for the professional development of officers, particularly new recruits, as they prepare to take up postings across the country.
“This kind of training is very important because it enhances the operational readiness of our officers. Nigeria is currently dealing with multiple security challenges, and it is vital that our policemen and women are well-prepared to respond effectively in the field,” Hassan stated.
The police spokesman appealed to the public to cooperate with the Command by complying with the advisory, while also commending residents for their patience and understanding.
“We count on the cooperation of the good people of Kaduna State. We know that the sounds of gunfire may cause anxiety, but this is why we are making this announcement ahead of time. We seek maximum cooperation and appreciate the understanding of residents, as this important exercise is conducted to prepare our men for the future,” Hassan added.
The command reiterated that the shooting drill was a temporary measure and would end after Wednesday.
It, therefore, urged the public not to misinterpret the sound of gunfire as a security breach.
We want everyone to know that this is not an emergency but a planned exercise. By Thursday, life will return to normal in the area. The Command remains committed to the safety of lives and property in Kaduna State,” Hassan added.
