N’Delta youths disown anti-NDDC protest, warn against disruptive actions

PORT HARCOURT – The Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Forum (NDENYLF) has distanced itself from any planned protest against the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), warning against attempts to destabilize the region.
Reports suggest that some youths, dissatisfied with the NDDC’s programs, are planning a protest against its leadership. However, NDENYLF spokesman Comrade Legborsi Yamaabana, speaking in Port Harcourt on Thursday, described the proposed protest as being driven by external interests seeking to undermine the commission’s efforts.
We are aware of recent attempts by faceless groups, sponsored by selfish interests, to target the current Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku,” Yamaabana said.
“While we do not take a partisan stance, we strongly believe these actions are meant to disrupt peace, incite crisis, and hinder development in the Niger Delta. We commend Dr. Ogbuku’s leadership for promoting transparency, accountability, and infrastructural development.”
He noted that under Ogbuku, the NDDC has adopted an open-door policy that has significantly reduced protests.
Yamaabana reaffirmed that Ogbuku’s tenure remains valid, as confirmed by the Minister for the Development of the Niger Delta, Mr. Abubakar Momoh. He also called on security agencies to remain vigilant and take action against groups attempting to destabilize the region under false pretenses.
“The stability and prosperity of our communities are paramount, and we will not tolerate any actions that compromise these values,” he added.
NDENYLF reaffirmed its role as the highest decision-making body for youth and civil society within the Niger Delta, representing all ethnic groups in the region.
