Education must never be denied anyone, says Soludo’s wife

The wife of Anambra State governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has said that education is a right that should never be denied by anyone, adding that everyone, including the government at all levels, must approach it with a mindset of priority.

Soludo, who is also the founder of the ‘Healthy living with Nonye Soludo’, noted that achieving inclusive, equitable and quality education is not just the responsibility of the government alone, but everyone must be involved.

The Anambra first lady stated this in a press statement she released on Saturday, in commemoration of the ‘International Day of Education’, celebrated annually and dedicated to education.

She said, “Education is a right that should never be denied by anyone. For that reason, we must approach it with a mindset of priority.

Achieving inclusive, equitable, and quality education isn’t just the responsibility of the government alone. Everyone can make a change.

“A society that aims to grow, builds its foundation and future deep in education. In Anambra, we see education beyond the school walls. The ‘Solution’ administration understands clearly that education is akin to the kind of future we want for our dear state.

“Today, as we commemorate the International Day of Education, we do not look at the success already achieved.

We want to establish a system that makes education the first priority and a dream for every child in Anambra State.”

She expressed excitement over the 15 new entrepreneurial subjects recently introduced into the state’s Junior Secondary School curriculum, describing it as an avenue for the students to acquire new skills.

The new subjects include Solar installation, garment making, GSM repairs, agriculture and processing, plumbing, tiling, POP installation and event management, bakery, hairstyling, make-up, interior design, CCTV/intercom installation, digital literacy, information technology and robotics.

“Our administration recently introduced 15 new Entrepreneurial Subjects into the state’s Junior Secondary School Curriculum.

“In today’s fast-changing world where skills have also become a major driver of human capital demand, we want to ensure that every school child in Anambra State is provided the best opportunity to not just learn the best skills, but to become solution providers and succeed in them.

“Here in Anambra State, our administration is always very intentional about the kind of future we wish to prepare every child for.

“With our totally free education policy now fully in place in both primary and secondary schools, we are very confident that these investments will bear greater long-term results for our dear state,” she added.

Online on January 16, reported that the Anambra State Government has introduced 15 entrepreneurial subjects into Junior Secondary Schools across the state to boost the practical skills and entrepreneurial mindsets of students.

Some of the subjects introduced include Solar Installation, Garment Making, GSM Repairs, Agriculture and Processing, Plumbing, Tiling, POP Installation, Event Management, Bakery, Hairstyling, Make-up, Interior Design, CCTV/Intercom Installation, Digital Literacy, IT and Robotics, among others.

Speaking during the introduction of the subjects at Igwebuike Grammar School, Awka, the Chairman of the Post-Primary Schools Service Commission, Prof. Nkechi Ikediugwu, said the aim is to prepare the students not just for the theoretical aspect of learning, but also for the practical ways of creating value for themselves.

Ikediugwu said this initiative would prepare the students not just to be job seekers, but job and value creators aimed at making them contribute meaningfully to the economic development of the state and the country at large.
