In a statement issued by the spokesperson for the state command, DSP Udeme Edet, and made available to journalists on Wednesday, the  CP noted that the festive period is usually characterised by large gatherings of people at Eid praying grounds, relaxation centres, recreational facilities, highways, parks and other public places as residents celebrate with their families and loved ones.

The CP assured parents and guardians that adequate measures have been put in place to protect children who may come out to celebrate Children’s Day activities across the state.

The command, however, warned criminal elements and hoodlums to stay away from the state, as security agencies are fully prepared to respond decisively to any attempt to disrupt public peace and order.

The CP also advised members of the public  to remain security conscious, report suspicious movements or persons to the nearest police station and cooperate with security personnel deployed to various locations.

Eid-el-Kabir, also known as Eid al-Adha, is one of the most significant festivals in Islam, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command.

The celebration is observed with special prayers, the slaughtering of livestock such as rams, cows, and goats, as well as the sharing of meat with family members, neighbours, and the less privileged, symbolising faith, sacrifice, and charity.
