Wike pledges ‘Rainbow Coalition’ for FCT devt meets Council Chairmen-elect

ABUJA: The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Nyesom Wike, has committed to a collaborative “rainbow coalition” with newly elected Area Council chairmen to drive infrastructure and social development across the capital

Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja, the minister emphasized that the primary goal of the Administration remains delivering tangible results to residents regardless of political affiliations.

The pledge came as the minister hosted the chairmen-elect, who visited his office to present their certificates of return following the recent local polls.

While congratulating the victors on their hard-fought successes, Wike noted that the grace of leadership carries a heavy responsibility to serve the public interest above partisan loyalty.

“On behalf of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, I congratulate the brand new chairmen of the Area Councils. By the grace of God, you have worked hard and emerged victorious, and we thank God for the opportunity given to you to serve,” Wike stated.

He stressed that the success recorded in the city centre since his appointment was largely due to a culture of cooperation that he intends to extend to the Area Councils.

Reflecting on the political landscape of the territory, the minister pointed out that the Federal Capital Territory Administration FCTA remains open to all leaders who align with the developmental vision of President Bola Tinubu.

He remarked that candidates who supported the president’s agenda received the administration’s backing and emerged victorious, but he quickly added that even those from opposition parties who support the presidency would be integrated into the collaborative framework.

“Candidates who supported Mr. President received our support, and we thank God they emerged victorious. Even those from other parties who support the President will be part of what we call a rainbow coalition in the FCT,” the minister remarked

Wike urged the incoming leaders to prepare for the rigorous task of governance ahead of their official swearing-in scheduled for June.

He noted that the support provided by the presidency is a debt that must be repaid through the provision of high-quality governance and the improvement of the lives of the people at the grassroots.

Wike expressed his appreciation for both the incoming and outgoing council leaders, wishing them success as the territory prepares for a transition in local administration
