Why 2Baba is trending on X in Nigeria

Music icon, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, is currently trending on X in Nigeria after a video surfaced, reviving an old rumour about the singer’s alleged arrest in the United Kingdom (UK).

The clip, posted on December 1, 2025, has sparked fresh debate online, with many Nigerians revisiting a story 2Baba had already denied.

2Baba, who travelled to the UK for a concert tour in October, missed a scheduled London show on October 2, 2025.

That absence led to rumours that he had been arrested after a fight with his new wife, who is also a lawmaker in the Edo State House of Assembly, Natasha Osawaru, at the airport.

He later posted a video on Instagram denying the reports and explaining that he missed the show because of a medical emergency. At the time, he and fans dismissed the report, but the story continued to circulate on gossip sites and social media.

The conversation returned after Tosin Silverdam, a blogger, posted what he described as new evidence, a video clip on Instagram and X on December 1st, which he said shows 2Baba being arrested at London’s Gatwick Airport after a heated argument with Natasha.

In the caption, he wrote, “Video of Tuface Idibia Being Arrested by the Police in the UK After an Alleged Altercation with His Wife Natasha… and Video of Heated Argument at the Airport. The Video Is Finally Out.”

Screenshots from the clip shared by commentators appear to show officers speaking with 2Baba outside a store before escorting him out of the building.

Silverdam also posted another clip of the argument with Natasha and suggested she was “jealous of 2Baba getting all the attention.”

He has insisted the videos support his earlier claim that police took 2Baba into custody. Back in October, he had said the police were called during the dispute and “the African Queen crooner was reportedly taken away.”

Once Silverdam released the video, it quickly went viral, with X users in Nigeria jumping on the conversation, making 2Baba the number-one trend.

This development has generated mixed reactions from netizens. While some users said the clip confirmed the arrest rumour, others said it lacked context and could simply show the singer being escorted out of a store.

Reacting to the development on X, a user @geeztvofficial first wrote, “Maybe this is AI because that can’t be our legend 2Baba Arrested in London. The police people could have asked well na. Maybe it’s their new love language…this is husband and wife matter… Or was pregnancy cravings that caused it? I mean their lovey dovey video just went round and now this.”

Another user, @OzoUde_4th, tweeted, “2Baba go buy Case. Natasha allegedly arrested 2Baba abroad. Their marriage is dead on arrival. The lady should have said she needed a father figure for all her children not a husband.”
