Two killed, nine injured in Ogun road crash

A road crash that occurred on Monday night along the Owode-Ijako area of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway has left two people dead and nine others with varying degrees of injuries.

The accident involved a DAF truck, a Mazda bus and a tricycle, a traffic update released by the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency on Tuesday obtained by PUNCH Metro indicated.

According to the report, the DAF truck driver had parked and left the engine of the vehicle running in a sloppy entrance of a warehouse located in the area.

The report noted that the truck descended into reverse and collided with the bus and the tricycle.

The report read, “A fatal road crash at the Tipper Garage, inbound Abeokuta, along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. Vehicles involved are one DAF truck (red colour, JJJ-144XD), a Mazda bus (white colour, EPE-394XP) and, a Keke NAPEP (yellow colour, DGB-599VC)

“According to an eyewitness who was at the point of the accident, the DAF truck was parked at a sloping entrance to a warehouse opposite Tipper Garage, while the driver left the engine running and applied the handbrake.

He then descended from the truck and took his waybill to the security men at the gate of the warehouse. The truck eventually disengaged from the handbrake and reversed to the expressway, causing the accident.”

It added that 13 people were involved in the crash, two people were reported dead, while nine others sustained injuries.

“Fourteen occupants, including 11 males and three females, were involved, seven males and two females were injured, and two males were reported dead.

“Initially, only one male was presumed dead at the scene of the accident. All others were rescued and rushed to the Ifo General Hospital for medical attention.

“But a report from the police and the FRSC officers that conveyed the injured to the hospital shows that another adult male was later pronounced dead at the hospital, making two males presumed dead,” the report stated.
