Traffic gridlock: Embrace remote and hybrid work arrangements, Sanwo-Olu urges businesses

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos, has called on businesses and organisations in the state to consider adopting remote and hybrid work arrangements to help alleviate the severe traffic congestion caused by the ongoing repair work on the Independence Bridge at Bonny Camp.
In a post on his X account after his visit to the repair site on Thursday morning, the governor acknowledged the frustration experienced by commuters and urged companies to support efforts to ease the gridlock by exploring flexible work models.
“A temporary shift in work culture can go a long way in reducing traffic pressure and supporting our collective wellbeing,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The governor also apologised to Lagosians for the inconvenience caused by the repair work, assuring them that the government was actively working to minimise disruptions.
He noted that the decision to fix the bridge had been planned for over three years to prevent a potential disaster, given its deteriorating structural integrity.
The decision to fix the Independence Bridge was not made overnight. This repair has been in the works for over three years, carefully planned to avert a potential disaster. Delaying this intervention any further would have put lives at risk,” he stated.
Sanwo-Olu reassured residents that his administration was collaborating with relevant agencies to improve traffic management and implement immediate solutions.
He also highlighted the deployment of additional traffic monitoring officials and security personnel to ensure smoother traffic flow.
“We are not just watching from the sidelines; we have deployed additional traffic monitoring officials and security personnel to ensure traffic flows freely,” he added.
The governor urged Lagosians to remain patient as the repair work continues, reaffirming his commitment to ensuring that infrastructure serves the people effectively and that Lagos remains a resilient, responsive, and liveable city.
“Lagosians, I ask for your continued patience and cooperation. Your safety remains our priority, and we are committed to ensuring that our city remains not only a hub of progress but also a place where infrastructure serves the people effectively,” he concluded.
