Sokoto records 300 meningitis cases

No fewer than 300 people have tested positive for meningitis as the Sokoto State government strives to curtail the outbreak.
Of the 300 meningitis patients, 16 remained hospitalised, with the rest successfully treated and discharged, according to the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Faruku Wurno.
Speaking at a one-day state-level sensitization event in Alu Ya Gode Hall on Thursday, Wurno said swift intervention was already yielding results on the outbreak.
Health experts, including Dr Muhammad Marnona and Dr Larai Tambuwal, emphasised that meningitis was preventable, and urged residents to visit health facilities immediately upon noticing symptoms like high fever, vomiting, or neck stiffness.
Traditional leaders and stakeholders including the Sultan of Sokoto, represented by the District Head of Gagi, praised Governor Ahmed Aliyu-led administration for its proactive health initiatives.
