Reckless driver kills two, injures one in Oyo accident

A 59-year old man (named withheld) has run over three persons on the Ojoo-Iwo-Road, in the Ibadan North East Local Government Area of the Oyo State, leading to the death of two persons immediately.

reports that the third person, who sustained a fracture, is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital in Ibadan, the state capital.

Multiple eyewitnesses told our correspondent on Saturday that the unfortunate incident occurred last Wednesday around 12noon.

Eyewitnesses further said the suspect drove recklessly, which led to the death of the victims.

It was further gathered that the victims were between the age bracket of 22 and 27 years, and their corpses were deposited in the government’s morgue within the Ibadan metropolis.

An eyewitness, who simply identified himself as Suraju Oguntoye, said, “The victims were trekking when the incident occurred. The suspect is around 59 and 60 years of age. He ran over them. Two people (one female and one male) died immediately, while the third person was quickly rushed to the hospital with a fractured injury.”

Another eyewitness, Chris Ogbonnaya, said,” The suspect dangerously drove his Lexus and caused the death of the victims.”

Our correspondent also learnt that the case has officially been reported to the Police at the Testing Ground, while the case has been charged to court in the Ibadan North East Local Government Area of the state.

Confirming the incident in Ibadan, the state capital, on Sunday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, said two people were killed while the third person is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

He said, “Kindly note that there are confirmed records of only two fatalities, while a third individual is currently receiving close medical attention.

“Additionally, it’s important to highlight that the suspect involved has been charged in court. Updates would be provided accordingly, please,” the state PPRO confirmed.
