Rapper Sean Kingston, mother jailed for $1m fraud

American-Jamaican singer Sean Kingston has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison in Florida on Friday over a $1m wire fraud scheme that also implicated his mother.
The 35-year-old, best known for his 2007 global hit Beautiful Girls, was convicted in March for using falsified wire receipts to obtain luxury cars, watches, and other items.
His mother, Janice Turner, was handed a five-year jail term with probation in July.
Kingston and Turner were first arrested in May 2024 after a SWAT raid on their South Florida home. Prosecutors said he lured sellers of high-end goods through social media, promising promotion on his platforms, only to provide fake proof of payment.
Items included a bulletproof Cadillac Escalade and an Audemars Piguet watch.
Court records showed Kingston texted his mother instructions to “make [a] fake receipt” to delay payments.
Turner admitted to falsifying the wires but claimed she was protecting her son.
Before sentencing, Kingston apologised and expressed remorse, though his request for home confinement was denied.
This is not Turner’s first brush with the law, she previously served prison time for a 2006 bank fraud conviction.
Both she and Kingston have also faced multiple lawsuits from sellers claiming unpaid debts.
