Police arrest suspected criminals, recover arms, drugs in Delta
The Delta State Police Command has arrested several suspects and recovered firearms, illicit drugs, and dangerous weapons across the state.
The command said the operations, described as intelligence-driven, were carried out in different locations as part of efforts to strengthen public safety.
It stated that in one of the operations, police operatives arrested a suspected kidnapper, armed robber, cultist, and drug peddler in Ika South Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by its spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, the suspect, identified as Henry Obi, was arrested on April 4, 2026, at about 1:00 p.m. during a raid on a criminal hideout in Agbor.
Operatives of the Raiders Unit, acting on credible intelligence, raided a suspected criminal hideout in Ika South LGA, Agbor, leading to the arrest of one Henry Obi,” he said.
Edafe added that the suspect confessed to being a member of the Aiye Confraternity.
“A thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of one English-made pistol with six rounds of live ammunition,” he stated.
He further disclosed that illicit drugs were discovered concealed inside an air conditioner.
“Further search revealed suspected illicit drugs ingeniously concealed within the body of a standing LG air conditioner in the parlour, suggesting deliberate efforts to evade law enforcement detection,” he said.
In a separate operation, four suspects were arrested during a raid on a criminal hideout at Hausa Market near the Customs checkpoint along the Benin–Asaba Expressway.
“Operatives of the Buffalo Team, in collaboration with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Achalla Branch, carried out a coordinated raid which led to the arrest of four suspects,” Edafe said.
He identified the suspects as Yakubu Umar, 19; Galiu Adamu, 17; Nuhu Musa, 16; and Zaraduwu Usman, 21.
According to him, items recovered from the suspects included large quantities of suspected illicit drugs such as Colorado, Canadian Loud, Indian hemp, Tramadol, and Swinol.
“Also recovered were two locally fabricated battle axes and the sum of one hundred and forty-four thousand naira,” he added.
Edafe noted that all suspects and exhibits are currently in police custody, while investigations are ongoing.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their swift response.
He said, “Such operations are critical in sustaining the Command’s ongoing crackdown on crime.”
The police boss also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible information.
“The Command will not relent in its efforts to safeguard lives and property across the state,” he assured.
