Ondo new CP assumes duty

The Ondo State Police Command says Felix Ohagwu has officially assumed duty as the 47th Commissioner of Police in the state.

This is contained in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Akure by DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s spokesperson.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Ohagwu took over from Adebowale Lawal, following his recent posting by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.

The statement said that reshuffling was part of the IGP’s strategy to strengthen internal security and enhance effective policing across the country.

The new CP is a seasoned and highly experienced officer with an outstanding record in crime prevention, intelligence-led policing, public safety management and operational coordination.

“Over the course of more than three decades in service, he has served in several operational, investigative and administrative capacities across the country, distinguishing himself through professionalism, discipline, dedication to duty and exemplary leadership,” it read.

The statement quoted Ohagwu as also reaffirming his commitment to consolidating on the existing security architecture within the state, while prioritising the protection of lives and property.

“I assure residents that the command, under my leadership, will combat crimes and criminality through proactive policing strategies, robust intelligence gathering, community engagement, and strategic partnerships.

“We will also sustain collaboration with other security agencies, and relevant stakeholders will be leveraged on.

“Residents must continue to support the police and other security agencies through timely and credible information capable of aiding crime prevention and enhancing public safety,” the statement said.
