Police arrest five suspected kidnappers in Edo, rescue victim
Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested five suspected kidnappers and rescued their victim, Jemila Ibrahim, unhurt.
In a statement released by the command spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, on Tuesday, the victim was rescued unhurt on May 13 during a bush combing operation around Okpege River Road, Iyuku Community in Jattu, Edo North.
She noted that the kidnapping gang had since been arrested and taken into custody, where they would be arraigned after investigations are concluded.
The statement read, “On 13th May, 2026, at about 19.30hrs, security operatives engaged in sustained bush combing operations around Okpege River Road, Iyuku Community in Jattu and successfully rescued one Jemila Ibrahim, who was kidnapped on 10th May, 2026
The victim was rescued unhurt and taken to the hospital for medical attention, while the following suspects, allegedly responsible for her abduction, have been successfully arrested.
“They are Nura Saminu ‘m’, 24, Shaibu Isah ‘m’, 23 years, Suraj Sabitu ‘m’, 23 years, Yajubu Sagiru ‘m’, 23 years and Oseni Abdullahi ‘m’, 26 years.
“The suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned before the court upon conclusion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, commended the operatives involved in the operation and reassured Edo residents of the command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes in Edo State.
