Ondo job applicants protest fake employment offer

Some Ondo State youths who applied for employment into the state Teaching Service Commission on Friday staged a peaceful protest for allegedly being issued fake appointment letters by some government officials.

Chanting various solidarity songs to express their displeasure over the development, the protesters, who converged on the entrance of the governor’s office in Akure, said they applied for the jobs through the normal process.

It is gathered that the state government recently embarked on the recruitment of teachers into primary and secondary schools across the 18 local government areas of the state.

However, the protesters were said to have been denied access to complete the recruitment process after the government officials discovered that they were holding fake appointment letters.

The protesters called on the state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to look into their matter and take necessary action to address the issue.

One of the protesters, who simply identified himself as Ola, said they applied for the teaching jobs and letters were issued to them but they were denied at the point of capturing, which is part of the recruitment process.

“We were not allowed to be captured by the officials of SUBEB (Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board). They said we do not have a genuine appointment letter. We want to appeal to the governor to intervene in this matter,” he lamented.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, confirmed that the protesters had been scammed with fake appointment letters by some unknown people.

“People should please note that those who protested are not teachers but applicants who were duped by some individuals during the recruitment process. They all paid money to scammers who issued them fake letters of appointment.

“Those legitimately recruited by the government have been absorbed and have started working,” the CPS stated.
