Jigawa police arrest 29 suspects for armed robbery

Jigawa State Police Command has nabbed 29 suspects in a crackdown on armed robbery, fraud, and other crimes, with massive seizures including vehicles, fake cash, guns, and drugs.

Arewa PUNCH gathered that this was contained in a statement made available to journalists in Dutse, the state capital, on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer Jigawa State Police Command, SP Shi’isu Adam.

SP Adam, while highlighting the command’s big wins in fighting crime, narrated,  “The Jigawa State Police Command has recorded another significant achievement in its sustained efforts to combat crime and ensure the safety of lives and property across the State.

“On March 13, 2026, around 5 p.m., Shuwarin Division detectives burst two fraudsters based on solid tips,” Adam noted.

According to him, “the suspects, Abdullahi Muhammad, 18, and Sabiu Kamisu, 40, both from Rangwam, Sundimina in Birnin Kudu LGA, tricked a 37-year-old man from Kajuru LGA, Kaduna State.

“We arrested them for criminal conspiracy and fraud. They deceived the victim and grabbed N1,050,000 pretending to exchange US dollars,” SP Adam said via the statement.

“The duo confessed during grilling, leading to the recovery of 64 fake $100 bills and a Honda car (BKD 220 AA),” the PPRO added.

Subsequently, the Jigawa police spokesperson revealed that on March 14, a Hadejia ‘B’ Division team snagged 12 suspects on a tip-off, linked to robberies, homicide, cattle rustling, theft, and stolen goods, adding that “the suspects tied to the dreaded (Alin Mai) gang terrorising Hadejia area.”

The PPRO said in the statement that the seized items included a Mercedes Benz, three motorcycles, spare parts, master keys, an invoice, arrows, gloves, a cement bag, and an MP3.

“The suspects alongside exhibits were transferred to SCID Dutse for investigation; they’ll face court soon,” SP Adam affirmed.

The Jigawa police mouthpiece also detailed in the statement that on March 16 at 4:30 p.m., Ringim Division cops responded to a distress call and caught four robbers mid-heist between Chaichai and Shafar villages.

Continuing, the PPRO said that the suspect leader, Inusa Isa, 37, from Dausayi village in Ringim LGA, held accomplices Binya Sabo, 20, Yusuf Usman, 25, and Abba Usman, 24.

He explained that the suspects used guns to threaten a motorcyclist and stole his red Boxer bike and phone in the process.

The cops recovered the bike and a homemade single-barrel rifle, adding that “the case went to SCID Dutse for deeper probe and prosecution.

On March 17, 11:45 a.m. the Bamaina Division nabbed Adamu Abdullahi, 25, from Kankare Village in Birnin Kudu LGA, as he plotted with six others to lure 42-year-old victim to Jangargari bush for fake currency swap.

“The gang machete-attacked the victim, robbing him of N1 million,” he noted.

“The suspect confessed; we’re hunting his accomplices,” the PPRO quoted.

“On March 19 at 3:20 p.m., patrol cops in Dutse metropolis grabbed two from Auzara, Kachako, Albasu LGA in Kano State, Amadu Umar, 25, and Tambaya Umar, 23—with a stolen red Honda motorcycle (HJA 178 QK) using it for animal thefts,” Adam said.

The statement further noted that same day at 4 p.m., a Gumel LGA raid in Maidabara settlement caught Shamsu Abdullahi, 18, from Kano’s Hotoro Quarters, loaded with 2,460 Exol tablets and 150 Pregabalin capsules,” adding that “the suspect is under probe, and the case heads to SCID Dutse,” SP Adam said.

However, Adam further disclosed that on March 20 at 8:30 p.m., Birnin Kudu Division patrol team arrested Muktar Sa’idu, 20, from Zazikan Jeji in Bauchi’s Ningi LGA, robbing a motorcycle in Alkali Quarters. “The bike was recovered, and he’s now in court,” he stated.

He also revealed that two vehicles, six motorcycles, fake USD notes, a fabricated rifle, over 2,000 illicit drugs, master keys, and more were recovered during the operations.

Moreso , the PPRO quoted the Commissioner of Police as praising the officers’ bravery and performance.

The command therefore vowed that it would have no mercy on criminals, even as it also reiterated its unwavering commitment to rid the Jigawa State of criminal elements.
