Ogun Civil Defence Secures Three Convictions on Various Charges, Remands One for Sexual Misconduct

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ogun State Command Headquarters, Abeokuta, on Monday, February 3rd, 2025, arrested one Yusuf Adeola Joseph, male, 29 years in connection with a fraudulent withdrawal of money from the Wema Bank account of Mr. Olatona Waheed.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSC Dyke Ogbonnaya.
He explained further that, the Investigations revealed that the defendant transferred a total sum of two hundred and twenty-five thousand naira (#225,000:00) only from the Point of Sale (POS) terminal of Mr. Olatona Waheed to his personal account.
The defendant confessed to have committed the crime during investigation and was charged to the Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court on a three count charge bordering on breach of trust, stealing and obtaining by false pretence.
He pleaded guilty to the three count charges before His Worship OF Adeduntan (Mrs) and was ordered to be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ijebu-Ode while the matter was adjourned to Monday, February 10, 2025 for trial and sentencing.
After the presentation of the facts of the matter before the magistrate on the adjourned date, the defendant was sentenced to one year imprisonment having committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 419 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, Nigeria.
In another development, the same division gained a six months conviction against one Kazeem Tobi, male, 20years, for stealing an Elepaq generating set valued at about one hundred and twenty thousand naira (#120,000:00) only.
The defendant was arrested by the patrol team of the division at Idode One Way in Ago-Iwoye while trying to sell the generator to a scavenger.
He was rearrested on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 and after thorough examination of the matter, the defendant was charged to the Ago-Iwoye Magisterial Court on two counts bordering on conspiracy to commit felony and possession of item reasonably suspected to have been stolen.
The defendant pleaded guilty before His Worship OF Adeduntan (Mrs.) and was remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ijebu-Ode while the matter was adjourned to February 10, 2025 for trial and sentencing.
On the said adjourned date, the facts of the matter was presented before the magistrate court and after presentation of the facts, the court found the defendant guilty as charged and sentenced him to six months imprisonment.
The Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court found the defendant guilty under Section 430 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, Nigeria 2006 and was sentenced accordingly to six months imprisonment.
In a related development, on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, one Adebanjo Segun, male, 21 years, was arrested for stealing a hen.
After thorough examination of the matter and completion of investigation, it was discovered that the defendant committed the same offence sometime in December 2024 wherein he was pardoned as a supposed first offender.
Due to the revelation on earlier offence, he was charged to the Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court on a lone count charge bordering on Section 430 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, Nigeria 2006, on February 20, 2025.
After pleading guilty before His Worship OF Adeduntan (Mrs.), he was convicted and sentenced to six months imprisonment by the magistrate.
In the same vein, on Saturday, February 8, 2025, one Mrs. Idris Mariam, female, 42 years, was arrested for having carnal knowledge of a survivor and minor of 14 years, male, name withheld.
The survivor, in the course of investigation opened up that the defendant has been having these sexual assault with him since December 23, 2024 for successive eight times.
After the completion of investigation, a motion for ex parte to remand the defendant at the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Ijebu-Ode, for 60 days was filed by the legal team of the State Command at Ago-Iwoye Magisterial Court on Monday, February 17, 2025.
The prayer of the Corps to remand the defendant was granted by the court under His Worship OF Adeduntan (Mrs) while a duplicate case file of has been forwarded to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP), Ogun State Ministry of Justice, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, for legal advice.
Meanwhile, the State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ogun State Command Headquarters, Abeokuta, Commandant Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo, has warned against all sorts of inhuman treatments and indecent acts noting that such will not be tolerated in and around Ogun State.
