Ogun assembly passes N1.668tn 2026 appropriation bill 

Ogun State House of Assembly on Monday passed the 2026 Appropriation Bill of N1,668,997,993,125.44, presented to the house by Governor Dapo Abiodun barely a month ago.

The 2026 budget proposal was passed following the presentation of the report of Musefiu Lamidi, Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, who thereafter moved the motion for its adoption, seconded by Hon. Folawewo Salami and supported by the whole house.

The plenary session held at the assembly complex, Governor’s Office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, was presided over by the Speaker, Oludaisi Elemide.

The bill was later read and adopted clause by clause before the Committee of the Whole House; after which the motion for its third reading was moved by the  Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff, seconded by the Minority Leader, Lukman Adeleye, and supported by all the lawmakers through a unanimous voice vote.

The Clerk/ Head of the Legislative Service, Sakiru Adebakin, thereafter took the third reading of the bill before the State lawmakers; while the Speaker later directed that the clean copy of the bill be transmitted to the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his assent.

Earlier, while presenting the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation’s report on the bill titled: ” H.B. No. 028/ OG/ 2025- Year 2026 Appropriation Bill”, Hon. Lamidi said that “the Assembly adjusted the budget proposals of three MDAs, part of which led to a slight upward review of the Internally Generated Revenue to the tune of N2.193bn.

He said that the same figure was reduced from the capital receipt, retaining the total actual budget expenditure of N1.668 trillion, earlier presented to the State lawmakers by the Governor.

Abiodun had presented a total sum of N1,668,997,993,125.44 to the state assembly for approval as the 2026 budget proposal for the state.

The governor stated that the revenue composition of the 2026 Appropriation Bill titled the “Budget of Sustainable Legacy” includes an estimated ₦250.00 billion from the Internal Revenue, ₦259.88 billion from other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), totalling ₦509.88 billion in IGR.

He said that funding from the Federal Government, including Statutory Allocations, Value Added Tax, and other shared revenues, is projected at ₦554.81 billion, while capital receipts are estimated at ₦518.90 billion, comprising internal and external loans and grants.

Abiodun said that the focus of the 2026 budget is to deepen revenue transparency, expand the tax base, and strengthen fiscal sustainability, without placing additional burdens on residents.
