Obasa’s supporters besiege Lagos Assembly, demand reinstatement

Supporters of Mudashiru Obasa, the ousted Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, gathered outside the assembly complex on Thursday, demanding his reinstatement.

Obasa arrived at the complex in the afternoon, accompanied by security aides. A video circulating online captured his supporters holding placards and chanting slogans in his favor.

Obasa was removed as Speaker on January 13 while he was abroad, with Mojisola Meranda swiftly installed as his successor. Upon his return on January 25, he was met by a large crowd of loyalists.

Since his removal, Obasa has challenged its legitimacy, insisting that he remains the rightful Speaker of the House. Meanwhile, speculation has been mounting that Meranda is under growing pressure to step down.

Earlier today, security aides assigned to the incumbent Speaker were reportedly withdrawn, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the leadership of the assembly.
