Police inspector dies after weekly fitness exercise in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Police Command has expressed grief over the death of Inspector Adamu Isah, who reportedly collapsed shortly after participating in the command’s weekly walkathon exercise on Wednesday.

Isah, an officer attached to the Department of Operations, was said to have returned from the exercise at the command headquarters when he suddenly collapsed.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, said in a statement issued on Thursday that the officer was immediately taken to hospital for medical attention, but doctors later confirmed his death.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Shaffa, described Isah’s death as a painful loss to the command and condoled with his family, colleagues and friends.

The Sokoto State Police Command is deeply saddened by the sudden and painful loss of our colleague, Inspector Adamu Isah. He was a dedicated and gallant officer who served his fatherland with unwavering commitment and professionalism,” Shaffa said.

The CP noted that the deceased was also actively involved in sports, describing him as a member of the command’s volleyball team and a boxer.

“His energy, discipline, and team spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew him,” he said.

Shaffa further described Isah as a disciplined officer who contributed significantly to the operations of the command, assuring his family that the police would provide the necessary support.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his immediate family during this difficult time. We pray that the Almighty God grants them the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” he added.

The commissioner urged personnel of the command to remain steadfast and take solace in the deceased’s years of service to the nation, while praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
