NYSC decries rising corps members’ rejection by employers

The National Youth Service Corps has raised the alarm over the increasing rejection of corps members by assigned employers.
The NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, expressed concern during the 2025 Annual Corps Employers’ Workshop held in Jos, Plateau State, on Wednesday.
Represented by Deputy Director, Gbamisola Salami, he said such rejections deny corps members valuable work experience.
“Your organisations provide platforms for corps members to apply their skills and gain practical experience.
Rejections hinder this objective,” he stated.
Nafiu also cited issues like late or non-application for corps members, poor welfare provision, and inhumane treatment by some employers.
He urged organisations to create supportive work environments that promote corps members’ well-being and productivity.
Plateau NYSC Coordinator, Jonathan Yavala, said the workshop aimed to foster collaboration and bridge communication gaps.
“You are not just supervisors but mentors and partners in nation-building,” he told employers.
Declaring the event open, the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Musa Ashoms, stressed the need for an enabling environment where corps members can thrive and contribute meaningfully to their host communities.
