The Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro,Dr Mukail Akinde has warned the students of the institution, prohibiting the posting of nude pictures of fellow students on social media.

The Rector also cautioned students against exam malpractice, indecent dressing, and other unbecoming behaviors on campus.

Dr Mukail sounded the warning during the matriculation ceremony of 11,316 new students for the 2024/25 academic session on Friday.

The students were  matriculated across Eight Schools into the National Diploma (OND), Higher National Diploma (HND), ND ODFeL and HND ODFeL levels respectfully.

According to the rector, out of an 7,261 applicants, a total of 4,566 were offered admission into the full-time ND programmes while only  2,887 were admitted into the part-time ND programmes out of a total of 4,592.

The Mukail also noted also that a total of 88 candidates: 59 and 29 for both ND ODFeL and HND ODFeL respectfully were offered admission.

The Rector however sounded a stern warning to the matriculants to stay away from any activities that may bring the institution into disrepute, which he described as “forbidden behaviour”.

“The following are some acts that are deemed as gross indiscipline or forbidden, which you’re enjoined to avoid: Cheating during examinations; stealing, posting of nude photographs of other students on social media, drug abuse, sexual immorality, disobedience to lawful instructions and cultism.

“The forbidden behavior also includes walking on lawns; littering of the Campus; writing graffiti on walkways, and indiscriminate posting of posters, assault, defamation of character, fighting, action that constitute branch of peace on and off campus and indecent dressings in the form of sagging, revealing clothes, coloured hair, body hugs, face cap and T-shirt with strange and vulgar inscription”, the Rector warned.

He expressed profound appreciation to all parents and guardians that have played significant parts in ensuring that their wards and children consider the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro as their first choice, as he promised that the School will continue to improve on its service delivery.

Having commended “the past Managements of the Institution whose invaluable labour and incurable legacies continue to stand the test of time; Arc Olusegun Olanrewaju Aluko, PhD, all Principal Officers, Deans of School, Directors, Heads of Department, other members of Academic Board, Polytechnic Management Committee, Staff and three (3) staff unions on campus (ASUP, SSANIP and NASU), students and Students’ Union Leadership, the entire body of alumni, Rector Akinde applauded the leadership of the Paramount Ruler of Yewa Kingdom, HRM Oba Kehinde Olugbenle MFR, including the Obas, traditional chiefs and the Polytechnic Ilaro Community Forum (PICOF), the Head of Security Architectures, transporters, market men and women”.

He expressed appreciation to Engr Chief Idowu Onifade, Chairman, Polytechnic Ilaro Community Forum (PICOF), the NDLEA Commander, Director of Medical Services, Dr. B.M. Jesusina and the staff of Examinations, Records and Transcripts (ERT), who walked the matriculants through issues of the community, hard drugs related issues, medical resources and computations of Cumulative Gross Point Average (CGPA).

The Rector concluded when he said, “I congratulate you once again on your matriculation. Your decision to join the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro Community is a wise one, and we are committed to ensuring that you acquire the necessary skills to become total and self-sufficient individuals. I wish you a peaceful and productive stay on campus”, the Rector stated.
