New Ogun FRSC commander declares zero tolerance for extortion

The newly appointed Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State, Oludare Ogunjobi, has pledged to enforce discipline within the command.

He also adopted a zero-tolerance stance on extortion.

Ogunjobi made this known during his maiden address to officers and men of the command, a copy of which was made available to PUNCH Online on Saturday.

The sector commander also emphasised professionalism, integrity, and teamwork as key pillars of his leadership.

Ogunjobi stressed the importance of unity among personnel, noting that the command’s success would depend on a collective effort.

“No single individual can achieve the mandate of the Corps alone. We must therefore build a culture of collaboration, mutual respect, and shared responsibility.

“Excellence must become our standard, not an exception,” he added.

Ogunjobi charged officers to demonstrate total commitment to duty, stressing that their responsibility to ensure safety on the roads must be approached with diligence and professionalism.

He also highlighted plans to strengthen collaboration with key stakeholders, including government agencies, transport unions, community leaders, and the media, to enhance road safety management across the state.

The commander declared that indiscipline would not be tolerated under his watch, warning against acts such as absenteeism, lateness, and improper dressing.

“In line with the 2026 Corporate Strategic Goals of the Corps, this Command will prioritise intelligence- and data-driven operations,” he said.

“Discipline remains the bedrock of any uniformed organisation. Acts such as absenteeism, leaving duty posts without authorisation, lateness, and improper dressing will not be tolerated.”

He directed the provost to enforce discipline fairly and firmly, stressing that no infraction would be overlooked.

Ogunjobi also issued a stern warning against extortion, describing it as unacceptable and contrary to the core values of the FRSC.

He further cautioned officers against incivility towards members of the public, urging them to maintain professionalism in all interactions.

“I must strongly warn against all forms of extortion. This practice is unacceptable and completely against the core values of the Federal Road Safety Corps. Any personnel found engaging in such acts will face appropriate disciplinary action,” he said.

While emphasising discipline, Ogunjobi assured personnel of his commitment to their welfare, noting that a motivated workforce would enhance productivity.

He added, “We are not only law enforcement officers; we are also public servants. Every interaction with road users must reflect courtesy, patience, and professionalism.

“A motivated workforce is a productive workforce. Your well-being matters, and it directly impacts your performance and morale.”

He outlined his vision to make the Ogun State Sector Command one of the most customer-friendly in the country, adding that this would require a change in mindset and commitment to service excellence.

The commander also reiterated the need to improve patrol operations to reduce road crashes in line with the Corps’ strategic goal of achieving a 10 per cent reduction in road traffic fatalities and injuries.

Our patrols must not only be visible but impactful. We must ensure that our presence on the roads translates to safer highways, reduced crashes, and saved lives,” he said.

He urged officers to work together to achieve the command’s objectives, assuring them of inclusive leadership.

“Together, through unity, discipline, commitment, and professionalism, we can achieve greater results and take this Command to enviable heights,” Ogunjobi said.

He thanked the Corps Marshal, Shehu Muhammed, for the confidence reposed in him, assuring that he would justify the trust through “hard work, transparency, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to the ideals and vision of the Corps.”

Ogunjobi takes over from Akinwunmi Fasakin as Ogun Sector Commander.
