N’Delta CSOs, ex-agitators call off protest against NDDC leadership
The Coalition of Niger Delta Civil Society Organizations and ex-agitators have called off a planned protest against the leadership of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), initially scheduled for tomorrow.
In a statement issued after a meeting in Warri, the coalition announced the decision, citing the intervention of regional leaders, stakeholders, and the strategic engagement of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF).
The statement, signed by Prince Nelson Gomeromo, National Coordinator of the Progressive Alliance for Niger (PAN), Comrade Jesse Birinumughan, National Coordinator of the Niger Delta Defence Force (NDDF), and Comrade Jackson Agbor, Chairman of the Ijaw Youth Leaders of Thought, highlighted the coalition’s commitment to meaningful dialogue, constructive engagement, and collective progress.
The cancellation underscores our dedication to advancing the region through peaceful dialogue rather than confrontation,” the coalition stated. “We deeply appreciate the unwavering solidarity of our members and support groups in championing the interests of the Niger Delta.”
The coalition also acknowledged the significant achievements of Dr. Samuel Ogbuku as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NDDC. They praised his leadership for its vision and dedication to the region’s welfare and development.
“Dr. Ogbuku’s tenure has been marked by purposeful leadership and a visible commitment to progress. His stewardship has elevated the Niger Delta, setting a clear path for positive change,” the statement read.
Additionally, the coalition commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for reappointing Dr. Ogbuku, describing him as an “enterprising, progressive, and worthy ambassador of the Niger Delta” who has demonstrated probity, competence, and strategic leadership in managing the NDDC.
Emphasizing unity, the coalition called on all stakeholders—including youths and ex-agitators—to support Dr. Ogbuku’s leadership in fostering sustainable development across the region.
As we move forward, we urge everyone in the Niger Delta to rally behind his vision to drive peace, economic growth, and infrastructural transformation,” they stated.
The coalition concluded by expressing profound appreciation to community members and stakeholders for their patience, understanding, and support. They affirmed their renewed commitment to collaboration and advocacy for the region’s betterment.
