NDDC committed to expanding interventions – Official

The Niger Delta Development Commission has restated its commitment to expanding interventions across the Niger Delta region.

The commission said its various interventions are aimed at empowering individuals, improving livelihoods, and promoting sustainable development.

Speaking during the presentation of relief materials to the Omuma-Uzor community in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, the NDDC Managing Director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, said the initiative reflects the commission’s commitment to addressing the economic challenges facing many households in the region.

This was contained in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Friday by the NDDC Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama.

Ogbuku, who was represented by the NDDC Director of Education, Health and Social Services, Engr. Jeremiah Oritsejolone stated that the commission remains focused on improving the welfare of communities through targeted support programmes.

“The NDDC remains committed to expanding interventions that empower individuals, strengthen livelihoods, and promote inclusive development. Beneficiaries are encouraged to make responsible use of these items to support their households,” he said.

The NDDC boss noted that the rising cost of living and limited access to basic necessities have placed significant pressure on households, particularly in rural communities.

The commission continues to implement targeted interventions aimed at providing relief and supporting vulnerable populations,” he added.

He also urged beneficiary communities to maintain peace and cooperate with government development agencies in the implementation of development initiatives.

“This event reinforces a fundamental principle that governance must be people-centred, responsive, and compassionate,” Ogbuku stated.

The NDDC Director in Abia State, Dr Anderson Ukeh, advised members of the community to remain law-abiding and peaceful while benefiting from the intervention.

Ukeh, who was represented by a Principal Manager, Mrs Ijeoma Offor, encouraged the beneficiaries to ensure orderly distribution of the relief materials.

Also speaking, the Deputy Director of Education, Health and Social Services, Dr Chioma Newlywed, urged the community to continue to demonstrate unity and cooperation in sharing the items.

She expressed appreciation for the support and goodwill shown to the commission.

Earlier, the Chairman of Omuma-Uzor community, Elder Felix Nwogu, commended the NDDC for responding to the community’s request for assistance.

“We are truly grateful to the NDDC for this laudable intervention,” he said.
