No appointee resigned before deadline, says Cross River official
No political appointee in Cross River State resigned before the March 26 deadline set by Governor Bassey Otu for those seeking elective positions in the 2027 general elections, an official has said.
Otu had earlier directed political appointees with political ambitions to resign on or before March 26.
A statement issued on Friday in Calabar by Mr Ifere Paul, Special Adviser on Political Matters to the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, said no appointee complied with the directive.
According to the statement, no political appointee submitted a letter of resignation before the deadline.
It will be recalled that the governor gave the directive, stressing that public office should not be mixed with personal political ambitions.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that before the directive, several political appointees had declared their ambitions at various fora.
Among them are the Commissioner for Environment, Moses Osogi; Commissioner for Special Duties, Oden Ewa; Commissioner for Health, Dr Henry Ayuk; and Commissioner for Youth Development, Ijom Ukam.
