NAPTIP to probe daycare abuse claims amid Simi controversy
National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has said it will investigate credible reports arising from recent public concerns over alleged incidents of child sexual abuse and misconduct in daycare centres across Nigeria.
The move follows renewed backlash against singer Simi after an old tweet about children at her mother’s daycare resurfaced on social media, with some X users alleging it suggested inappropriate intent.
In a public notice shared on its X page, NAPTIP urged individuals with relevant information to come forward, stressing that it would launch a full investigation once credible reports are received.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to tackling allegations of abuse and misconduct in daycare centres across Nigeria.
“Public Notice: We take all reports of child sexual abuse/misconduct seriously and are committed to investigating every credible claim,” the notice reads.
“Following recent public discussions and concerns raised regarding alleged incidents of child sexual abuse/misconduct in daycare settings in Nigeria, we are committed to thoroughly investigating credible report.
We kindly request anyone with factual information, evidence, direct knowledge, or who was personally affected by the matters referenced in the viral posts or related experiences to kindly reach out to us confidentially. Via DM or email us info@naptip.gov.ng.”
Meanwhile, Simi has dismissed the allegations, saying her old tweets were merely playful remarks made by a cheeky young woman and were never intended to suggest anything inappropriate.
She maintained that the posts carried no malicious or improper intent.
