Katsina CSOs condemn attacks, demand action
The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations in Katsina State has expressed deep sorrow and grave concern over the renewed wave of insecurity in the state.
This condemnation was contained in a statement released by the CSOs Public Relations Officer, Dahiru Gambo Rafindadi, and made available to newsmen on Thursday, Katsina noted in parts: “We strongly and unequivocally condemn the recent brutal attacks on the communities of Farun Bala, Dandume, and Jikamshi, where armed bandits unleashed senseless violence, resulting in the tragic loss of many innocent
lives and leaving several others injured.
The statement emphasised that, “These attacks are not only heart-breaking but also a painful setback to the fragile peace
previously experienced across frontline and vulnerable local government areas, following the peace initiatives with bandits.”
It noted further that, “the resurgence of violence is alarming and raises serious
concerns about the sustainability of these efforts, particularly at a critical time when
communities are preparing for the wet farming season, a period vital to livelihoods and food security.”
It maintained, “The continuous bloodshed has instilled fear, disrupted daily life, and threatens the socio-economic stability of our communities.
We must not allow this situation to deteriorate further.
Enough is enough.
Every life lost is one too many, and decisive action is urgently required.
“We call on all tiers of government to work collaboratively and decisively to confront this crisis before it escalates beyond control. In particular, we draw the urgent attention of His Excellency,
Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to the worsening security situation in Katsina State and the wider North-
West and North East regions. We urge the immediate deployment of comprehensive and effective security measures to protect lives and property.
“Our security forces are capable and
well-trained; they must be adequately equipped, supported, and empowered with the necessary resources and enabling environment to carry out their duties effectively.
“To our representatives in the National Assembly, this is not a moment for silence or routine proceedings. The voices of your constituents must be heard loudly on the floors of the chambers. The urgency of the situation demands that you prioritise the security crisis, advocate
relentlessly, and ensure that concrete actions are taken.
“Silence, at this critical time, only deepens the pain of the people,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, the coalition commended the efforts of Governor Mallam Dikko Umar Radda and local government chairmen and thus called for a reassessment of existing peace agreements to prevent further breakdown.
The group also consoled the families of victims and called for unity, resilience, and swift action from all stakeholders.
