Jigawa robbery suspect flees as police nab five

The Jigawa State Police Command arrested five suspects, including a woman, in two separate armed robbery cases, while a sixth remains at large, with stolen properties comprising livestock recovered in a bold crackdown on local crime.

This was contained in a statement released to journalists on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Shi’isu Adam in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.

it is gathered that the Jigawa State Police Command has ramped up its anti-crime blitz this year, with a massive October 13 statewide raid netting 105 suspects, including armed robbers – alongside over 5,000 seized drugs, followed by a strong October 18-24 push that led to three more arrests for robbery and related offences, as highlighted in Nigeria Police Force updates.

It was learnt that these efforts, blending sharp intel and community tips, had slashed armed robbery incidents by over 30% across rural hotspots like Ringim and Hadejia, underscoring a safer Jigawa amid relentless vigilance.

According to the statement, the operations targeted criminal conspiracies and robberies that terrorised residents, with police recovering stolen items and vowing to bring all perpetrators to justice.

Adam disclosed that in the first incident on October 13, three unidentified youths armed with sticks ambushed 50-year-old Usman Muhammad from Garun Gabas Village in Malam Madori LGA, as he returned from Hadejia town along Kwanar Bazawari.

“The attackers robbed Usman of his red Kasea motorcycle, Infinix Hot 50i smartphone, ATM card, and other valuables, leaving him traumatised,” the PPRO explained.

He stated that police at Hadejia ‘B’ Division received the report around 10:30 p.m. and launched a swift investigation, leading to arrests on October 28 at about 9 p.m.

“Among those nabbed were Adamu Yusuf, 20, from Kwanar Bazawari Settlement in Kiri Kasamma LGA, and Adamu Isah, 25, from Kantin Waje Quarters in Hadejia LGA,” SP Adam noted in the statement.

Recovered items included the victim’s stolen phone, ATM card, a Dane gun, cutlass, passport, Airtel SIM card, motorcycle key, and other documents, bolstering the case, SP Adam added.

Additionally, police arrested Aisha Yusuf, 47, and Yusuf Adamu, 55, both from Kwanar Bazawari Settlement, for allegedly assisting in concealing the stolen property, the statement revealed.

“All suspects will soon face arraignment in court for prosecution on charges of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, and aiding concealment,” SP Shi’isu Adam quoted the command as saying.

In the second case on October 30, around 2:20 p.m., Gumel Division detectives arrested Habu Yahaya, 30, from Tsamai Settlement in Gumel LGA, for conspiring in a robbery, the Jigawa police mouthpiece detailed.

Accordingly, Habu and his accomplice, Eje, who is now at large, used a cutlass to intimidate 17-year-old Umar Tasiu from Galagamma Quarters in Gumel LGA, as he walked along Garin Gambo Road with three goats and two rams, SP Adam said.

Riding an unregistered motorcycle, the duo stole one ram worth ₦70,000 from Umar, heightening fears of rising banditry in the area, according to the police report.

The PPRO also revealed that an investigation continues, with intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing Eje.

However, the police spokesperson quoted the Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, as commending officers for their diligence and urging the public to support the eradication of crime in the state.
