Fasting tames emotions, clergy tells Christians

Founder of Solid Rock Kingdom Church in Akwa Ibom State Apostle Dr John Okoriko had encouraged Christians in the country to adopt fast as one of the strategies to attract God’s blessings upon their lives saying fasting can tame emotions such as anger and violence.

Speaking during a media interaction in Eket Local Government Area of the state, on the theme “Miracle of Fasting and Prayer”, the clergy advised Nigerians to fast in order to detoxify their bodies and check multiple health related problems confronting the society in recent times.

Okoriko disclosed that fasting is his second nature, adding that he had fasted in the last 50 years and also organized corporate fasting in the church with faith and sincerity of purpose.

“Fasting is my second nature.

I have been able to erase old beliefs that one cannotstay without food for many days.

“Out of nothing God has been faithful to me. I am proud in organizing fasting every year. I am duty bound to fast because it helps to clean the body system, tame negative emotions such as anger and violence”.

He recalled that excessive eating and uncontrollable quest for food has caused broken marriages, quarrel among families and unnecessary rancour among brothers, adding that fasting can tame violent tendencies in man.

Even the words you utter during fasting exercise is more powerful than the one you speak with stomach filled mouth.’’ he said

Okoriko also explained that fasting can help individuals to gain spiritual energy disclosing that the principle of fasting is old as nature itself.

According to him, fasting means giving nature opportunity to cleanse the body.

“Wild animals have a healing balm within the body system. When they are hurt or sustained injuries, the healing process can be quickened. During this period, these animals abstain from food for healing of their wounds.

“Nigerians must fast to clean their body from toxic wastes that pollute the body causing sickness.”

Okoriko who used the opportunity to announce this year’s Annual Long Fast Prayer conference of Solid Rock Kingdom Church warned Nigerians not to eat anything that come their way and always set aside a day or two to observed fasting for their health and spiritual benefits.

“Your fasting must be 24 hours. If you miss breakfast or dinner, it is not as fast as many believe in fasting from 6 am to 12 pm. This is not fasting exercise. For your body to be impacted by fasting,it must commence from morning to the following day.”
