EPL: Maresca dismisses rumours of replacing Guardiola at Man City

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has dismissed reports linking him to a potential role as Pep Guardiola’s successor at Manchester City, calling the speculation “100%” unfounded.

The 45-year-old, who previously served as an assistant to Guardiola at City, has been mentioned in multiple reports suggesting he could replace his former mentor should Guardiola step down at the end of the season.

As reported by BBC Sport on Friday, speaking to the media, Maresca said: “It doesn’t affect me because I know it is 100% speculation and I don’t have time for these things. I have a contract here until 2029. My focus is just on this club, and I am proud to be here.”

He added, “One week ago in Italy, it was the same with Juventus. I don’t pay attention to it. It’s important to understand why this news was there, but it is just speculation. The Newcastle game is important and very difficult.”

Chelsea currently sit fourth in the Premier League and are set to face Newcastle United at St James’s Park on Saturday at 12:30 GMT.

Maresca’s comments reaffirm his commitment to Chelsea, underlining that his priority remains guiding the club’s campaign this season rather than entertaining external speculation.
