Edo police rescue remaining abducted Lagos-bound passengers

The Edo State Police Command has rescued the remaining six passengers abducted by armed men during an attack on a commercial bus belonging to Young Shall Grow Motors along the Benin-Lagos Road.

The command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, noting that the victims were rescued on three different days following sustained bush-combing operations.

According to the statement, the passengers were abducted on May 9, 2026, at Ogua Community while travelling from Akwa Ibom State to Lagos.

The police said coordinated rescue and bush-combing operations were immediately launched after the incident, leading to the rescue of five passengers, comprising two adults and three children.

It added that on May 10, 2026, operatives deployed drones, aerial surveillance and intelligence-driven policing to engage the kidnappers in a gun duel, resulting in the rescue of two additional passengers.

“The Edo State Police Command wishes to update the general public on the kidnapping incident which occurred on 9th May, 2026, at Ogua Community along the Benin–Lagos Road, where armed kidnappers attacked a commercial bus belonging to Young Shall Grow Motors conveying 13 passengers from Akwa Ibom State to Lagos, during which a female passenger was shot by the hoodlums.

“Today, the Edo State Police Command is pleased to inform the general public that the remaining six abducted passengers have all been rescued unhurt,” the statement added

The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, commended the operatives involved in the operation and assured residents that efforts were ongoing to apprehend those behind the crime.
