Adeboye urges Nigerians to embrace ‘greatest gift’

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged Nigerians to take advantage of the Yuletide to embrace the greatest gift ever given to mankind.

He stressed that the possession of the divine gift guarantees fulfilment, peace and freedom from lack, irrespective of economic conditions.

According to a statement shared with Sunday PUNCH, Adeboye gave the charge during a “Go-a-fishing” evangelistic session, held at the National Stadium, Lagos, on Christmas Day.

He said Christmas, traditionally known as a season of gift-giving, should remind humanity of God’s ultimate and eternal gift to the world, Jesus Christ.

According to him, no wise person would reject or trivialise the special gift of the Creator of the universe, especially during Christmas.

He noted that while material gifts exchanged among humans are temporary and subject to loss, decay or depreciation, God’s gift of Jesus Christ is eternal and all-encompassing.

“If man gives you money, it can develop wings and fly away; if man gives you clothes, they will either be worn out or go out of fashion; if it is a car you are given, it will depreciate.

Therefore, the best gift that man can ever have is Jesus Christ, who gives the ability to sleep, gives peace of mind and remains a true friend that will last forever and always be by your side,” Adeboye said.

He emphasised that anyone who possesses this gift would never end up a failure and would not lack, regardless of the prevailing economic situation.

Also speaking at the event, the Special Assistant to the General Overseer (Administration) and Pastor in charge of RCCG Region 1, Pastor Dele Balogun, described God’s special gift as a complete expression of divine love for mankind, noting that it comes with healing and numerous blessings.

According to Balogun, the blessings associated with accepting Jesus Christ include victory over enemies and challenges, favour, breakthrough and prosperity, among others.

He stressed that God’s special gift has no limitation.

He further explained that embracing the gift of Jesus Christ requires believers to reflect Christ-like attributes in their daily lives.

“As He (Jesus Christ) is holy, we must be holy; as He is merciful, we must be merciful; as He is righteous, we must be righteous; and as He is compassionate, we must be compassionate,” he said.

Balogun added that the true proof of accepting God’s special gift should be evident in society, noting that perpetrators of kidnapping, insecurity and other social vices must desist and put an end to such acts.

The clerics urged Nigerians to use the Christmas season not only for celebration, but also for sober reflection and genuine acceptance of the values embodied in the birth of Jesus Christ.
