One dies, three injured as yam-laden truck rams tricycle in Lagos

A fatal road traffic crash has claimed one life and left three others seriously injured at Aiyetoro Junction along the traffic light corridor in Epe, Lagos State.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority confirmed that the accident occurred on Sunday after a yam-laden truck lost control and smashed into a stationary commercial tricycle.

According to a statement issued by the agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, preliminary findings indicate that the truck, with registration number AGL 764 XB, was coming from Ijebu-Ode and attempted a U-turn inward Eleko at the junction when the driver reportedly lost control and rammed into a stationary tricycle with registration number SMK 127 QR.

“The devastating impact claimed one life and left three other occupants with severe injuries,” the statement read.

Taofiq said LASTMA operatives on routine traffic management duty in the area responded promptly to the incident.

He added that officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), working with personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and military personnel, extricated the three critically injured victims from the wreckage.

“The FRSC conveyed the deceased and the injured victims to General Hospital, Epe, for medical attention and necessary procedures, while security agencies maintained order throughout the rescue exercise and facilitated the restoration of traffic flow,” he said.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for the repose of the departed.

He also wished the injured a swift recovery and called on security authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident to ensure that anyone found culpable faces the full weight of the law
