Why I discarded my gold jewellery after conversion — Foluke Adeboye

Wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Foluke Adeboye, has revealed that she threw her gold jewellery into a lagoon after becoming born again.

In an interview with Gold Maker TV which is currently circulating online, Foluke shared how her lifestyle changed dramatically in the early days of the RCCG.

“Every woman loves fashion. For example, I had already made a set of gold and all kinds of things for my child who was under two years before we became born again. By the moment we were born again, then in RCCG, it was a taboo for you to have earrings,” she said.

She explained that after accepting the faith, wearing earrings and gold became unacceptable, prompting her decision to discard them.

Adeboye said the decision drew reactions, particularly from her mother’s friend, who questioned why she did not give the items to her mother instead of throwing them away.

“So everything, we drop it in the lagoon, which my mother’s friend came and asked me, you should have given all this to your mother so that she can go and sell it, this and that. I said, whatever is not good for me, it’s not good for my mother.

Her decision, however, raised eyebrows, particularly from her mother’s friend, who questioned why she didn’t simply give the items to her mother instead of throwing them away.

She explained that the decision was not easy, especially considering how much she had spent on the items, but she was determined to fully embrace the teachings and expectations of her new faith.

She noted that despite the value of the jewellery, she was determined to fully embrace the teachings of her new faith.

“In the days of Copper, you know what, I don’t know whether you know, what is Copper. When we were wearing Copper instead of gold, only God knows how much I spent on Copper.

She, however, maintained that she has no regrets, stressing that her commitment to God came first.
