VC warns against cultism as varsity matriculates 5,601

The Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, has warned newly admitted students against indulging in cultism and examination malpractices.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi gave the warning in his address during the 44th matriculation of the university in Port Harcourt.

Zeb-Opibi, congratulated the new students, saying they earned their place in the institution through hard work, determination, and merit.

“You now belong to a community of scholars known for academic excellence, innovation, and character.

“As you embark on this journey, remember that university life is not only about acquiring knowledge but also about developing discipline, integrity, and leadership.”

The VC said the university is committed to providing the students with a supportive environment, world-class teaching, and opportunities for personal growth.

However, this commitment comes with expectations. I must remind you of our zero-tolerance policy on examination malpractice and membership of cult groups.

Any student found guilty of these offences will face expulsion from the University. We expect you to uphold the highest standards of academic integrity and personal conduct.”

He said a total of 5,601students who have paid their fees officially matriculated at the ceremony.

The VC added, “The admission quota for our university given by JAMB, for the 2025/2026 academic session is 11,715 students. Out of this, JAMB has approved the admission of 9,549 students.

“While 8,448 students have accepted the admission on our portal, only 5,601 students have paid fees.”

He assured parents of the fresh students that the institution will do its utmost to nurture them into well-rounded graduates who will contribute meaningfully to society.
