Tragedy strikes Plateau football as four players and driver die in auto accident

Four players from Lebwit Football Club in Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau state along with their driver, lost their lives in a tragic accident while returning from a friendly match in Pankshin.

Thirteen others sustained serious injuries in the crash. Seven of the injured players have since been treated and discharged, while six remain under medical care.

The deceased players have been identified as Chabe Gontul, Shikritda Giswa, Nenyitwe Gopar, and Thomas, a corps member from Benue State. The identity of the driver has not yet been made public.

General Manager of Plateau United United football Club,Habila Hoses Mutla, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as a devastating loss of young football talent. “We extend our heartfelt sympathy to all affected families and call on well-meaning individuals and institutions to support the ongoing medical care and recovery process,” he said.

Kanke Local Government Chairman, Lapching Ezekiel Golime, speaking on behalf of the Plateau Football Association and Governor Caleb Mutfwang, also conveyed condolences to the grieving families. He noted that the tragedy would be felt deeply by the football community across the state.

“May their gentle souls rest in peace, and may God Almighty bring healing and comfort to the survivors, their families, and the entire Plateau football community,” Mutla added.
