Three killed in Bayelsa cult clash
At least three persons have been killed in a violent cult clash in the Igbogene suburb of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital
The attack, which occurred on Sunday night, triggered panic as gunshots were heard in different parts of the area.
Although the identities of the victims could not be immediately ascertained, eyewitnesses described the clash as a continuation of disturbing cult-related violence plaguing parts of the state.
Residents reportedly fled their homes, while business activities were halted during the violence.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal, called for intensified security surveillance to restore calm in the area.
The latest incident adds to recent cult clashes in parts of the state, where six people were reportedly killed in separate incidents, raising fresh safety concerns.
Residents are calling on the state government and security agencies to prevent further bloodshed.
Contacted, the spokesman of the state police command, DSP Musa Muhammed, confirmed the incident.
“Yes, three lives were lost. Investigation has commenced, and efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects,” he said.
