Take oath of office seriously, Soludo tells new chairmen

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has officially sworn in the newly elected chairmen of the 21 local government areas of the state, charging them to view their positions as a call to service.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony at the Light House, Awka, on Saturday, Soludo congratulated the chairmen, telling them that they had immense responsibilities ahead.

He emphasised that government was operating strictly within processes, rules, and laws, advising them to make every day and hour count while making the local government system more sustainable at the grassroots.

He said, “I welcome you all and I want to sincerely congratulate all of you and also commiserate with you. I say congratulations because it’s always an honour to serve.

Out of the estimated over nine million Ndi Anambra, you have been called upon to serve, and I know each of you will carry the responsibility of the Ndi Anambra on your shoulders.”

I commiserate with you because of the task ahead. It is in the collective interest of the people resident in the state, and when you think of the weight you are carrying, you realise that it is beyond you.

“Be reminded of the principles of the All Progressives Grand Alliance and the party’s motto, ‘Be your brother’s keeper’. We urge you to take your oath of office seriously, review it daily, and pay close attention to the assets and liabilities in the handover notes from your predecessors.

The local government election, which was held on August 29, 2026, saw the ruling APGA winning across the 21 LGAs in the state, demonstrating APGA’s firm and dominance of politics in the state.

Speaking on behalf of other chairmen, the Anaocha LGA Chairman, Paulinus Okafor; and his Idemili North counterpart, Stanley Nkwoka, promised to deliver on the mandate given to them by the people.
