Suspected ritualist nabbed

A 43-year-old suspected ritualist, Idowu Ashafa, has been arrested with fresh human head and two human palms concealed in a nylon by personnel of the Ogun State Police Command.

The spokesperson for the state Police Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday.

Babaseyi, who is a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said that Ashafa was arrested in the early hours of April 17, 2026, during a routine patrol led by the Divisional Police Officer, Solotan Owolabi.

He said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly exhumed the remains from a grave at Ido Itekun Village, Igbesa, for ritual purposes.

“The implement used in committing the act was recovered, while the scene was visited and documented. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.”

The command assured the public of its commitment to rid the state of criminal elements and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.
