Soludo’s wife distributes 5,000 hybrid non-GMO seedlings in Anambra

The wife of the Anambra State governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has distributed 5,000 packs of hybrid non-GMO seeds to residents across the state interested in household gardening and subsistence farming.

She carried out the distribution through her non-governmental organisation, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, aimed at promoting healthier homes, greener communities, and a more food-secure society.

The Anambra First Lady, who commenced the distribution in 2024, has so far shared 25,000 packs with farmers and residents across the state, boosting subsistence farming and providing economic support for families.

According to a statement released on Friday, each pack contains carefully selected seeds, including corn, green vegetables, cabbage, pepper, tomatoes, and okra, to help individuals and families grow organic and healthy food right from their homes and communities.

She urged residents, particularly women, to fully embrace household gardening and subsistence farming to sustain food production and generate surplus produce for local and international consumption.

She said, “As the annual rainy season farming begins, I am delighted to once again support and encourage passionate individuals in Anambra State who desire to own a household garden or embrace subsistence farming through the distribution of 5,000 packs of hybrid non-GMO seeds to passionate and interested individuals.

Each pack contains carefully selected seeds, including corn, green vegetables, cabbage, pepper, tomatoes, and okra, to help individuals and families grow organic and healthy food right from their homes and communities.

“As I always explain, I strongly believe that embracing home gardening is not only a step towards healthy living but also a practical pathway to food sufficiency and economic support for every household.

“Together, let us cultivate healthier homes, greener communities, and a more food-secure Anambra State. We can do that. I strongly believe that we can! Embrace this opportunity. So far, 25,000 packs have been shared with residents since 2024.”

The Anambra First Lady emphasised the need for household gardening, saying it plays a pivotal role in sustainable development, a greener environment, healthy living, and environmental conservation.

She urged residents to get ready to embrace the initiative, adding that full details of the distribution process would be made public.
