Senate President, govs unveil Lagos’ mega projects

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday inaugurated the newly constructed 5.04km Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge, the five-storey Lagos State Geographic Information Service Building, and the Lagos Multi-Agency Administrative Complex, both located in Alausa.

Tinubu, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, noted that the Ojota-Opebi link bridge would ease traffic congestion on the Ikeja-Maryland-Ojota corridor, stimulate business growth and raise living standards in its environs.

He said, “The Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge is more than infrastructure; it is a bridge to opportunities. In a busy city like Lagos, vehicular movement is more than just commuting; it is associated with the city’s economic well-being. When traffic flows, productivity improves.

“When time is saved, businesses grow. When access is made easier, living standards improve.

This is an achievement that underscores the importance of making the well-being of the people the centre of development.

“The Lagos Government has continued to show that development must be seen, felt, and experienced by the citizens.

“The Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge project being inaugurated today sends a clear message that the government of Lagos State has not been overwhelmed by the mobility challenges facing the State.”

Speaking in the same vein, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said the link bridge would ease congestion and improve mobility along the Ikeja-Maryland-Ojota corridor, while enhancing the quality of life for commuters.

He added that the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge would improve the efficiency of traffic circulation.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Gboyega Akosile, the project was envisioned by the then-Governor Tinubu administration in 2002.

He added that the projects reflected the government’s commitment to addressing Lagos’ peculiar challenges and lauded ongoing efforts to provide practical solutions.

Tinubu was joined by APC governors, led by their chairman, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma.

Also present were members of the state cabinet, legislators from the Lagos House of Assembly, Governance Advisory Council leaders, Local Government Area chairmen, and APC members in Lagos.

Tinubu reiterated that the projects emphasised putting people’s well-being at the centre of development and thanked the Lagos Government for naming the new Administrative Complex after him.

He said the LAGIS Building represents the future of an efficient and transparent land administration system.

He stressed that data and technology in land management were essential to strengthen planning and improve the land’s economic value.

“The Administrative Complex being commissioned today is an investment in efficiency, coordination, and better service delivery. The edifice will strengthen government capacity for improved service to the people,” he said.

“Let me emphasise that these achievements are more than the ability of one man; they showcase a system that is working. It is about public service that continues to deliver the dividends of democracy to the masses.”

Sanwo-Olu said the road project was completed with walkways, bicycle lanes, solar-powered street lighting, and embedded service ducts.

He said, “We have built not just for today’s needs, but with a clear eye on the expanding demands of the future. As part of this project, we integrated a comprehensive stormwater management system to address long-standing flooding along the Odo-Iya-Alaro corridor, strengthening environmental resilience.

“The LAGIS Building represents the evolution of that legacy: from horseback exploration to advanced digital geographic systems.

“At its core, it eliminates legacy paper-based bottlenecks in land administration, strengthens property rights, unlocks previously underutilised capital, and improves our Ease of Doing Business.

“The Multi-Agency Administrative Complex addresses another priority: improving the speed, efficiency, and coordination of government services, while enhancing the comfort and well-being of personnel.

“By bringing multiple agencies into a single, well-designed environment, we enable integrated, responsive public service delivery in Lagos, a significant step towards a 21st-century, citizen-focused public service.”

Explaining why the administrative complex was renamed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex, Sanwo-Olu said it recognised the President’s vision and contributions to institutional development in Lagos.

Situated on approximately 2.01 hectares within the Government Secretariat precinct, the administrative complex comprises four vertical blocks and offers over 7,362 square metres of modern office accommodation.

It features a penthouse, conference facilities, parking for over 300 vehicles, and fully integrated mechanical, electrical, fire safety, and external infrastructure systems.

Speaking on why Tinubu did not attend the inauguration physically, as against the hype, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, in an interview on Channels on Wednesday evening, said, “President Tinubu is in Lagos but has been busy with state matters and must prioritise, especially security. He’s monitoring developments and taking constant security briefs.”
