Police nab 22-year-old woman with 89 sachets of tramadol in Borno
The Borno State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old woman for allegedly smuggling tramadol concealed in a sack of grounded maize at Baga Road Motor Park, Maiduguri.
The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, disclosed this in a statement shared via X.com and signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, on Saturday in Maiduguri.
Abdulmajid said operatives from the State Intelligence Department intercepted the suspect on January 20, 2026, around 7:30pm, following a credible intelligence tip-off.
He explained that the woman was found with a black sack containing grounded maize, locally known as garri-masara, inside which 89
sachets of tramadol capsules were hidden.
The statement reads, “On 20th January 2026, at about 1930hrs, following a credible intelligence tip-off, operatives of the Command attached to the State Intelligence Department (SID) intercepted and apprehended a 22 year-old female suspect at Baga Road Motor Park, Maiduguri.
The suspect was found in possession of a black sack containing grounded maize (garri-masara), within which were concealed eighty nine (89) sachets of tramadol capsules.”
According to him, preliminary investigation revealed that it was the second time the suspect was carrying out such an assignment for her uncle. The police boss said the suspect and the recovered exhibits were in custody and undergoing thorough investigation, adding that efforts were ongoing to arrest her accomplice.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was given the black sack by her uncle to waybill the illicit consignment to Damasak Local Government Area before her interception, and that it was the second time she was carrying out such an assignment. The suspect and recovered exhibits are currently in custody and undergoing thorough investigation, while concerted efforts are ongoing to arrest the said accomplice.”
Abdulmajid reiterated the command’s commitment to combating drug trafficking, substance abuse, and other criminal activities in the state and urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to enhance security across the state.
