Police begin shooting exercise in Gombe Tuesday, urge calm

The Nigeria Police Force, Gombe State Command, has announced a two-day routine shooting range exercise scheduled to take place on April 14 and 15, 2026.

In a public notice issued on Sunday, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Buhari Abdullahi, said the exercise will be conducted at the Gombe Military Shooting Range in Liji between 6:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. daily.

“The general public is hereby informed that a routine range exercise will be conducted by personnel of the Gombe State Police Command on Tuesday, 14th and Wednesday, 15th April 2026 from 06:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily at the Gombe Military Shooting Range, Liji,” he stated.

Abdullahi urged residents, particularly those living around the exercise area, not to panic at the sound of gunfire during the period.

“Members of the public are advised not to panic at the sound of gunshots during the stated period,” he said.

He further cautioned against unnecessary movement near the designated area, stressing that the restriction is for safety purposes.

“Residents and commuters should avoid unnecessary movement or trespassing around the designated range area. Parents and guardians are also advised to caution their children and wards accordingly,” he added.

The police spokesman also called on the public to cooperate with security personnel deployed to the area.

“Kindly adhere to all instructions from security personnel deployed around the area. The cooperation and understanding of the public are highly appreciated as we continue to work towards ensuring public safety and security,” Abdullahi said.
