Police arrest eight over theft, violent attack in Yobe
The Yobe State Police Command has arrested eight suspects over alleged theft, violent assault and drug-related offences in separate operations across the state.
The command said the arrests were made by operatives in Bursari, Damaturu and Nguru Local Government Areas as part of ongoing efforts to tackle criminal activities.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.
Abdulkarim noted that the operations also led to the recovery of stolen items, including a motorcycle and other exhibits.
According to the statement, operatives attached to the Garin Alkali Division arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Musa Musa, for allegedly stealing building materials meant for the renovation of Daskum Primary School in Bursari LGA.
Abdulkarim said the suspect was intercepted along the Gashua Road while transporting the stolen items, including iron rods, from the school premises.
He added that a black TVS motorcycle allegedly used in carrying out the crime was recovered, while an accomplice identified as Alhaji fled the scene and remains at large.
“The suspect has been charged to court, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other persons linked to the case,” the statement read.
In a separate incident, operatives of the A Division in Damaturu arrested two suspects, Adam Maigaimu, 20, and Mohammed Umar, 18, following a violent clash involving an axe.
Police investigations revealed that the confrontation left the victims with what the command described as “serious injuries.”
The police further alleged that the suspects were involved in the theft of a ram belonging to a resident before selling it for personal gain.
Meanwhile, operatives of the Nguru Division raided a suspected criminal hideout in Anguwar Yan Rake, leading to the arrest of five suspects over alleged criminal activities.
On Tuesday, the Abia State Police Command arrested two suspects for vandalising and stealing government property along the Umuahia-Uzuakoli Road axis.
The suspects are 23-year-old Emmanuel Ogonna and 25-year-old Ifeanychukwu Oko, both of Lohom, Uzuakoli, in Bende Local Government Area.
